Fashion designer Helen Storey has collaborated with scientist Tony Ryan to create a beautiful and radical new concept which endeavors to purify the air that we breath through the surface of our clothes. You can hear Helen talk about the project on Radio Four and see the variety of garments created thus far on their web site.
Catalytic Clothing harnesses the power of a photocatalyst to break down air borne pollutants. An estimate of the required level of uptake for the Catalytic Clothing indicates that a significant reduction in the level of air borne pollutants in a large city such as London could be achieved if, for every metre of pavement width, 30 people wearing Catalytic Clothes walked past each minute. The clothing might be available in two years time.
